Dr. Paul Lam is an Australian family physician, Tai Chi master, author, and founder of Tai Chi Productions and the Tai Chi for Health Institute. After developing arthritis in 1974, he turned to Tai Chi to improve his own health and experienced such profound benefits that he dedicated his career to making the practice accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Combining his medical background with decades of Tai Chi study, he developed the internationally recognized Tai Chi for Health programs, designed to safely improve balance, mobility, strength, and overall wellbeing. Through Tai Chi Productions, Dr. Lam has created bestselling instructional books, DVDs, online courses, workshops, and teacher certification programs that have reached millions of people worldwide. His evidence-based programs—including Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Heart Conditions, and Tai Chi for Osteoporosis—have been adopted by healthcare providers, community organizations, and public health agencies around the world. In 2013, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Council on Aging recognized his Tai Chi for Arthritis program as an effective intervention for arthritis management and fall prevention. Dr. Lam’s philosophy is that Tai Chi should be safe, enjoyable, and available to everyone regardless of age, fitness level, or physical limitations. By blending traditional Chinese wisdom with modern medical understanding, he has helped establish Tai Chi as a respected practice for preventative health, mindful movement, and lifelong vitality.
