Headspace is a global mindfulness and meditation platform co-founded in 2010 by Andy Puddicombe, a former Buddhist monk, Rich Pierson, and later expanded under the leadership of CEO Russell Glass. Originally created to make meditation simple and approachable for everyday life, Headspace transformed ancient mindfulness practices into short, practical guided sessions that could be accessed from a smartphone. What began as live meditation events in London quickly evolved into one of the world’s most influential digital wellbeing platforms, helping millions develop healthier relationships with stress, sleep, focus, and emotional wellbeing. Today, Headspace offers an extensive library of guided meditations, breathing exercises, sleepcasts, mindful movement, focus music, and mental wellness programs through its app, website, YouTube channel, and partnerships with healthcare providers, employers, and educational institutions. While its roots lie in Buddhist mindfulness traditions, its teachings are intentionally secular, evidence-informed, and designed to be accessible regardless of spiritual background. Following its merger with Ginger in 2021, the platform also expanded into coaching, therapy, and psychiatry, creating a comprehensive mental health ecosystem. Headspace’s philosophy is grounded in the belief that a few minutes of mindful awareness each day can create meaningful, lasting change. Rather than promoting a specific spiritual path, it encourages curiosity, compassion, presence, and emotional resilience through simple daily practices. By making meditation approachable and scientifically supported, Headspace has played a pivotal role in bringing mindfulness into mainstream culture around the world.
