Rupert Spira

Rupert Spira is a British author, teacher, and philosopher of non-duality who has spent over four decades exploring the nature of consciousness and the source of lasting peace and happiness. Born in London and trained as a studio potter under the master ceramicist Michael Cardew, Rupert spent many years in deep study of the Advaita Vedanta and Kashmir Shaivism traditions, particularly under the guidance of Francis Lucille. It was through this immersion that he arrived at a direct recognition of the non-dual nature of experience — a recognition that would become the foundation of all his subsequent teaching. Rupert's core teaching is elegantly simple: beneath the constantly changing stream of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, there is a single, undivided awareness that is the shared nature of all experience. This awareness, he teaches, is not something remote or mystical but the most intimate and obvious fact of our existence — it is what we most essentially are. Through conversations, guided meditations, and retreats held across the world, he invites people to investigate this directly for themselves, using the tools of self-enquiry and what he calls "yoga meditation" — a practice of learning to feel the body and perceive the world in a way consistent with the understanding that consciousness is the fundamental reality. Rupert's work has reached hundreds of thousands of people globally through his YouTube channel, books, and his subscription platform Luminous. He is widely regarded as one of the clearest and most intellectually rigorous voices in contemporary non-dual teaching, bridging ancient wisdom traditions with the modern seeker in a way that is both philosophically precise and deeply compassionate. His events span continents and formats — from silent retreats to online webinars — making his teachings accessible to anyone, anywhere, who is ready to look into the nature of their own experience.
